Don Clarke is a self-taught visual artist who has drawn, painted and photographed the natural world around him for most of his life. Inspired by encounters with "street and mall artists", Don began painting in oils at an early age. Eventually, desiring medium that lent itself to detail, he discovered acrylic and over time, airbrushing. This opened up a lot of possibilities and led to more sophisticated drawings and the exploration of watercolors.
For over 17 years, Don owned and operated an art supply store gallery with framing and art instruction in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He was an active member of many art organizations and clubs, participating in numerous exhibitions.
After moving to British Columbia, he has continued teaching many mediums and styles and has instructed for over 22 years. On Vancouver Island, Don sold many paintings through galleries in Qualicum Beach, Tofino, Parksville, and Nanaimo.
Today, Don makes his home in the quaint town of Salmon Arm, on the shores of Shuswap Lake and draws inspiration from the surrounding natural beauty.
